Why I support VHP?

"For me, there are three reasons.  One, as a Veteran, the interview process with Barbara Hatch & Ashley Durham was cathartic."

"After 30 years of silence and disrespect after returning from Viet Nam, I actually was free to tell my story to two people who really cared and respected what I had to say.  My patriotic juices were rekindled."

"The second reason is obvious.  The students who participate in VHP develop communicative skills they might not otherwise develop.  They also have the opportunity to sit in on a Veteran discussing his personal living history story.  Finally, I believe VHP contributes to a societal need that will encompass generations.  These young people will become leaders in the public and private sector, but fewer than ever will actually serve in the military.  VHP provides that link to the military that will help them interact with the military in whatever capacity their future leadership requires.  Finally, I feel so strongly about the mission of VHP, that Judy and I have made VHP a beneficiary in our estate."

"I am proud to support VHP because it is a powerful educational program which transforms our students by developing in them a deeper appreciation of our veterans and of their service and sacrifice. At the same time, the veterans are healed as they tell their service stories to a younger generation of students who will honor and remember them."

"There are many veteran organizations, but none parallel the Veterans Heritage Project. VHP helps students in becoming more aware of our country and the sacrifices made to protect our freedom. The veteran in turn is the key to making this happen and comes away more fully appreciated."
