Clovis Jones Jr

Veteran Perspective

Major (Ret.) Clovis Jones, Jr. is a two-tour Vietnam veteran. He served as an Airborne Infantryman with the 1st Air Cavalry Division, experiencing combat during the famed Pleiku Campaign and Ia Drang Valley Battles with the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry (Airborne), and as a Cobra Attack Helicopter Pilot with the 101st Airborne Division’s 4th Battalion, 77th Aerial Rocket Artillery Battalion. He is a retired FedEx Express MD-11 Captain, a recent recipient of the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, and a leader in over a dozen aviation organizations, including the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

Student Perspective
Captain Elizabeth Satran, USAF, is a graduate of Cactus Shadows High School and NAU, and currently serves at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska, where she is in military intelligence. Lizzy interviewed and documented the stories of 20 veterans during her time with VHP.
Teacher Perspective
Brett Lineburg teaches World History and American Military History at Cactus Shadows High School. He took over as the VHP chapter advisor from VHP’s founder, Barbara Hatch in 2016. Over these past seven years, he has worked with students to capture the stories of 255 veterans.
